Projects
From 2015–2019, I gave shape to Arte en Español, an initiative hosted in partnership with La Tricolor 107.1 FM that centers the creativity of the Spanish-speaking population of the Roaring Fork Valley and continues at the Aspen Art Museum to this day. Over two dozen activities took place during this period to solidify the bond between the community, radio station, and museum, including:
/ Arte en el Aire: A series of PSA-style 30-second art interventions on air
/ Quarterly Arte en Español events: Free events served up to of 200 visitors per event with free music, food, artmaking, and activities such as gastronomy, storytelling, and a celebration ceremony for construction workers
/ Two publications: A "Yearbook" documenting the first two years of the initiative, and a "Objetos Viajeros–Puentes Humanos (Traveling Objects–Human Bridges)" zine compiling sketches of objects documenting migratory experiences
/ The exhibition Retratos Familiares (Family Portraits) at the Aspen Art Museum in 2018 featuring framed large format photos of families that participated in a pop-up photo studio with Meztly Esparza. Following this exhibition, the portraits were gifted to the participants.
Special thanks to Samuel Bernal Urbina, Manager of La Tricolor 107.1 FM.
